HSC Viola Leadlay Nursing Education Fund

The Leadlay Nursing Education Fund is used for nursing education initiatives at the Health Sciences Centre.

The initial contribution to this fund came from a bequest from Marion Viola Leadlay.  Viola Leadlay was born in Winnipeg on September 9, 1896. She earned a B.Sc. in nursing education from Columbia University. She was on staff of the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Winnipeg from 1928 to 1938, and then was nurse-in-charge of VON in Edmonton. She was a lecturer in public health nursing, School of Nursing at the University of Manitoba in 1944. In 1947, she worked with the Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses and became Registrar in 1950. She passed away in 1983 in Winnipeg.

The fund supports nursing education through two channels. The first is through continuing education awards from the Nurses Alumni Association of the Winnipeg General Hospital / Health Sciences Centre, managed by the Convener of the  Association’s  Education Committee. The second is support for nursing education at the Health Sciences Centre, managed by the HSC Director of Clinical Education.

Your financial donation will help provide sufficient interest income to support nursing education at the Health Sciences Centre in perpetuity.

Please note - if you wish to make a pledge, or set up a monthly recurring gift, please contact us directly by calling 204-515-5612 or sending a message to info@hscfoundation.mb.ca.   We appreciate donations of any amount, and those $15 and over will automatically be issued a tax receipt.
